| There have been many great science fiction authors over the years. Three of these writers have become noted as the fathers of science fiction due to their groundbreaking work that has stood the test of time and gone on to become classics in nature. Every true science fiction devotee should have works from these authors in their collection.
Jules Verne - His two most noted works, "From the Earth to the Moon", published in 1865, and "Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea," published in 1869, are truly prophetic. Although Verne never saw for himself, he imagined rockets traveling into outer space and nuclear powered submarines plowing the oceanic depths. H.G. Wells (1866-1946) - Famous for his classic novels "The Invisible Man (1897)" and "War of the Worlds (1898)," Wells took science fiction to a higher level by depicting the effects of modern technology on society and on moral ethics. Hugo Gernsback (1884-1967) - The prestigious Hugo, the Annual Science Fiction Achievement Award, is named after this author. He published the first sci-fi magazine, "Amazing Stories," in 1926. Over the years the many magazines that he founded, and those that imitated them, were the vehicle for unknown and unheralded sci-fi writers, many of whom became notable in their own right. |
